The Norwich Skating School offers programs tailored for skaters at different levels, from beginner through competitor, and age groups, from tots through adults.

Learn to Skate

The Norwich Skating School coordinates with the Norwich Municipal Rink's Learn to Skate Program. The Learn to Skate Program, designed by the United States Figure Skating Association, is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals.

Snowplow Sam 1 through Snowplow Sam 3 classes are reserved for children ages 3 through 5 who have never had formal ice skating instruction. The tot classes are designed to help children decide if they enjoy the sport of ice skating. The next group of classes, Basic 1 through Basic 8 and Hockey 1 through Hockey 4, is designed to teach sound skating basics for skaters’ ages 6 and up.

For skaters who have advanced beyond the Learn to Skate level, the Norwich Skating School offer the Ice Skating Institute program. A strength of the ISI program is its logical progression of skill development, whereby skills learned in each level build on skills mastered in the previous level. It establishes standards of performance of all maneuvers at all levels rather than a list of maneuvers to be learned.

Furthermore, the competitions sanctioned by ISI generally have a more relaxed attitude than USFSA events because of events such as "Spotlight" and "Interpretive" as well as more serious singles events. The ISI approach provides a less stressful, more nurturing environment for mid-level skaters.

Private Lessons

For skaters who have progressed to an advanced stage and who want to further their training for competition, performance or simply personal achievement, the Norwich Skating School offers private lessons. The Norwich Skating School's roster includes individuals who have competed, performed and coached on the national and international levels.
